Recently I wrote about how I would be voting for Jill Stein in 2016.
I want you all to know that you can join me. We don’t have to give up on the revolution! We just have to move it over to the only other candidate that shares the values we fell in love with when we were listening to Bernie Sanders.
The fact is, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump espouse nearly identical policies. Have a look for yourself at the political analysis from a non-partisan non-profit in the UK.
Seriously, look how close they are:
Really think about that. They are both Conservative Authoritarian, while most Americans are Libertarian Liberal. Neither of them even remotely represent us.
Besides, I know it’s always a choice between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich, but these have to be the to most hated candidates that the parties have ever picked. She’s a crazy warmonger. He’s a hateful narcissist. And you know what?
I won’t make that choice.
Some people say that Jill Stein can’t win, but I don’t think that is even a little bit true. It’s just more bullying to try to keep us down, and I hope you won’t fall for it.
The narrative goes the same in every single election:
“You can’t vote third party because they will never get enough support to win.”
“Wait until next election. This time we have to stop a madman.”
“You just don’t understand how politics works.”
Maybe we DO get how politics works, and we’re sick of it working that way.
Maybe there have never been two worse choices, and this is the chance we’ve been waiting for all along to let both parties know that they don’t represent any of us.
If not now, then when?
Look, I am a professor who wrote a book about US politics. If I think that we can still rise up and dismantle the establishment, then can’t you at least have a look at the facts?
I mean, give it a fair consideration.
Because I will tell you a secret: Even if I knew with 100% certainty that Jill Stein was going to lose, I would still vote for her.
Why, you ask?
Because if I do, then I can always say that I finally refused to choose between a giant douche and a turd sandwich. I have been making that choice and listening to the “voices of reason” my entire life, and I am sick of it!
For myself, it’s time I stopped backing down and falling in line with corruption and fear and hate.
There are a lot of us. We want Universal Healthcare and paid leave! We want better schools! We want student debt forgiven and college to be free to students!
And more than any of that: We don’t want anymore war!
For so long now, the media has refused to cover the bombing of brown people in far away places to further the political goals of our ruling class. We have to stand up to them! People’s lives literally depend on it!
As a Senator Hillary Clinton voted for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As Secretary of State she supported the bombing of Libya, Somalia, Pakistan, Yemen, and Syria. That is unacceptable.
Meanwhile Donald Trump hates brown people just as much as Hillary Clinton and would probably get us bombed. For once, the war would be here, and I certainly don’t want that.
I actually just don’t want war anywhere!
And that is why I have to support #DemExit and #JillStein2016! It’s time to take a stand, and I am taking it.
Also, if I ever get back to living in the US (I am in South Korea for work) I plan to run for office. And you should too! It’s like Bernie Sanders said: We have to all fight as hard as we can and participate in out Democracy.
Viva la Revolution!
