I went to school with a girl who has duel citizenship in the US and Pakistan.
She went back after college to run a school for the poor in Rawalpindi.
I like her a lot, and I don’t envy her choices this election.
Of course she is hoping that Bernie Sanders will get the Democratic nomination and win the presidency. I think most of us reasonable people are hoping that.
But what if he doesn’t?
What if it is Trump vs. Clinton in November?
That is when Muslims face a hard choice.
On the one side is Donald Trump, threatening to ban Muslims from the US. That’s not a good option, and all of his rhetoric has been meant to whip up white hate for minorities. No one but a few shitty white folks want that.
But Hillary Clinton supported the bombing of Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, Syria, and Pakistan. She called for invading Iran for basically no reason! She doesn’t seem to see Muslims or anyone brown as human.
So when you look at this, it’s a matter of wanting your relatives back home to be bombed, or to be banned from the US.
I think for Muslims the choice is the lesser of two evils, but it is also clear. Dead relatives is never good. Better to have them alive and unable to visit.
So the choice is: Bernie Sanders, or if not, then Donald Trump.
